Sometimes there are actually long baking droughts in my home. I swear.
The particular incident of the non-baking that inspired this post occurred just before Christmas. I had volunteered to help host a friend's baby shower, and of course had decided on a menu complete with cake and homemade cinnamon rolls, and I forget what else. The cinnamon rolls are the important part of this story. I just couldn't do it. The weekend of the party rolled around, I traveled all the way to Berlin, and then there was just too much to do and too many people to see, and before I knew it, it was 3AM the night before the brunch party and I had not started on anything (cinnamon rolls require some love and care, and most importantly, prep time), and then the guilt start rolling over me in waves. Seriously. Guilt over not baking. It's a problem.
But you know what happened? Absolutely nothing. The party was fantastic. We didn't need the cinnamon rolls, and you know what, I didn't need the stress. C'est la vie. So go ahead - skip the baking for now. Sometimes we all just need a break.
(More baking to come this week. Hopefully)
