First, have you ever had Afghan food? It's really, really good.... an extremely flavorful crossroads of Persian, Turkish, and Central Asian cuisines (pretty much what you'd expect given its location in the world).
There are three branches in Munich, all run by the same Afghani family. I went to the one in Lehel, which was large enough to accommodate our group of 15 people, and had the right ambience to bridge between casual night out with friends and "special occasion." All of the dishes that were ordered (and I tried bites of them all!), from the grilled meat and rice platters (that sounds boring, but trust me it's not- the rice is spiked with raisins and is sweet and cinnamony and the lamb is so tender it almost melts in your mouth), the homemade mantu (meat-stuffed dumplings in a yogurt and lentil sauce), and a ginger-scented stewed pumpkin dish, were excellent. Even the homemade chutneys that came complementary were fantastic. I wanted to try everything on the menu! I will definitely be going back so that I can further "educate" myself on Afghan cuisine.
