So you can probably guess that this week’s Beer Garden Tuesday plans were foiled by extremely non-summer-like weather (what’s new Munich? One day it’s scalding and the next it’s as if summer never even existed). The rain was pouring down all day and the clouds just began to scatter as the workday came to a close, but not enough to sit outside. In fact, Taxisgarten was closed up and empty, and we couldn't have visited even if we wanted to brave the damp. Beer gardens are fair-weather friends.
It's too bad, because Taxisgarten is a great, neighborhood beer garden, and a lovely place to meet friends on a summer evening. Tucked between Rotkreuzplatz and Schloss Nymphenburg, it’s central and easy to reach, but it’s quiet, almost suburban, in atmosphere. On a summer night (when the sun is actually shining and the air is warm and inviting), kids run around playing games and adults gather around their picnics and beer as the evening fades into night, and the twinkly strings of white lights glimmer above the tables. Ahhh, if only tonight had been such a night.
Besides just being a great place to while away the hours, Taxisgarten is also known for having good food, particularly their spare ribs which are the most ordered food in the beer garden. They're certainly worth trying!
