So anyway, tonight is not destined to be a beer garden kinda night. But last week I spent so much time in the beer garden that there is plenty of fodder for writing. And I really think it's about time I wrote about the Hofbräukeller. This is one of my favorite beer gardens for its location right smack in the middle of Munich. Wienerplatz is one of Munich’s most attractive plazas in the middle of Haidhausen (behind the Gasteig just above the Isar), and right behind the Platz is this secluded beer garden. You almost wouldn’t know it was there, if you weren’t looking for it.
Strung with twinkly lights, and during big sporting events boasting a huge screen onto which the game is projected, this is the ideal place to meet up with a group of friends or colleagues after work or for public viewing events. It's also very easy to reach with public transportation (Sbahn, Ubahn, or tram), and is just the place to take people if you want to go to a beer garden that is traditional, central, and yet somehow not so obvious (how is that possible?). Visitors would surely walk away from an afternoon here feeling that they somehow stumbled upon one of Munich's gems.
